The Good Shepherd - Part 3
John 10:14-15
04/22/2026
14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own
know me,
15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;
and I lay down my life for the sheep. (ESV)
Our prayer this week confesses that our only hope of
salvation from sin and eternal death is given to us by the death
and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
O God, through the humiliation of Your Son You raised
up the fallen world. Grant to Your faithful people,
rescued from the peril of everlasting death, perpetual
gladness and eternal joys.
How does this salvation happen? Jesus said:
I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know
me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;
and I lay down my life for the sheep.
Here is the mystery of the Trinity, the Triune God, and the
Church. We worship one God, yet Three Persons, Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. The Three Persons are of one mind, one essence, in
a way that we simply cannot explain.
The Church is one with Christ Jesus in the same way that
Jesus is one with the Father. We are of one mind with Christ,
His people, His flock. Indeed, without Christ Jesus the Church
does not and cannot exist. Without Christ Jesus, we are lost and
condemned, but with Him we are one with God.
May our Lord grant us faith to recognize that the Church has
hope because we are part of Christ Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
