Going to Jerusalem - Part 4\n Luke 18:32-33\n 02\/19\/2026\n\n\n 32 For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and\n will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit\n upon.\n 33 And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on\n the third day he will rise. (ESV)\n\n During Lent the Church prays:\n Almighty and everlasting God, You despise nothing You\n have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent.\n Create in us new and contrite hearts that lamenting our\n sins and acknowledging our wretchedness we may receive\n from You full pardon and forgiveness.\n\n\n Traditionally the Collect for Ash Wednesday, the prayer of\n the Church for the first day of Lent, is repeated during every\n service during the next forty days. The prayer speaks of God's\n love, grace, and mercy. Because God forgives the sins of the\n repentant, we pray that He will create in us a new heart which\n readily acknowledges our sin and which trusts in Him alone for\n forgiveness.\n\n We believe, teach, and confess that our works do not and\n cannot earn us forgiveness, but that God's love alone leads Him\n to grant us mercy. It is because Jesus traveled to Jerusalem\n knowing all that would happen during the Passover celebration.\n Jesus told His disciples:\n For [the Son of Man] will be delivered over to the\n Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and\n spit upon. And after flogging him, they will kill him,\n and on the third day he will rise.\n\n\n May our Lord richly bless us as we ponder His great love and\n compassion for His creation.
