Broadcast<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Truth Shall Set You Free - Part 1\n John 8:31-33\n 10\/27\/2025\n\n 31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him,\n ``If you abide in my word, you are truly my\n disciples,\n 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will\n set you free.''\n 33 They answered him, ``We are offspring of Abraham\n and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it\n that you say, `You will become free?''' (ESV)\n\n An acquaintance was taking a philosophy class at Purdue\n University. His professor stated, ``There is no such thing as\n absolute truth.'' The student was removed from the class roles\n by asking, ``Is that a true statement?''\n\n It is true that the speed of light is 186,000 miles per\n second, and that dropping a cement block on your foot will cause\n pain. When someone suggests that truth is relative, they are\n suggesting they disagree and want to change the subject. We may\n not see the truth, we may not agree about the truth, but that\n does not negate the truth. Eventually our disbelief and stubborn\n nature will be shown to be in error, and we will live with the\n consequences. This week we will be looking at the truth Jesus\n taught, ``The truth will set you free.''\n\n So it was in the life of Jesus.\n So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, ``If\n you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and\n you will know the truth, and the truth will set you\n free.'' They answered him, ``We are offspring of\n Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is\n it that you say, `You will become free?'''\n\n\n Many Jews had come to faith that Jesus was a good teacher,\n but they still held to the idea that their goodness before God\n was a matter of keeping an external law or pledging their\n allegiance to Him. They did not understand that Jesus taught we\n are all sinful before God, and that our only hope of salvation\n from sin and death is God's intervention. Our good works, though\n evidence of faith, do not and cannot earn us eternal life.\n\n May our Lord grant that we hear, understand, and believe the\n truth of God's grace, love, and mercy.
