(ESV)\n\n King Solomon had a lot to say about humility and how that\n affects our relationship with our neighbor.\n What your eyes have seen do not hastily bring into\n court, for what will you do in the end, when your\n neighbor puts you to shame? Argue your case with your\n neighbor himself, and do not reveal another's secret,\n lest he who hears you bring shame upon you, and your\n ill repute have no end.\n\n\n How fitting Solomon's words in today's cancel culture. If a\n person acts or says something which if found offensive, they are\n not given a chance to privately repent, but are immediately\n ostracized, boycotted, shunned, fired, or assaulted on social\n media or other public venues. Even if the actions or words were\n done decades earlier, there is no chance for redemption.\n\n How does Solomon suggest we deal with offense? He says what\n Jesus later said, deal privately with the matter to preserve each\n party's reputation and standing. The person complaining also has\n reasons to be canceled, so no one comes out the winner. Rather,\n love your neighbor, show respect, and work out differences\n privately. This seems like wise advice from the wisest man who\n ever lived.\n\n May our Lord grant us the wisdom to love our neighbor by\n showing them respect.
