Warning -- Part 4\n Jeremiah 8:10-11\n 08\/08\/2024\n\n\n 10 Therefore I will give their wives to others and\n their fields to conquerors, because from the least\n to the greatest everyone is greedy for unjust\n gain; from prophet to priest, everyone deals\n falsely.\n 11 They have healed the wound of my people lightly,\n saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.\n (ESV)\n\n A bit over two-thousand years before the birth of Jesus, God\n chose Abraham as the patriarch of His people. Over the years,\n the children of Israel endured slavery in Egypt, were highly\n prosperous during the reign of David and Solomon, were led into\n captivity, and returned to their land. No other ancient people\n have survived in the way of the descendants of Abraham.\n\n Yet God warned them of His wrath and punishment as they\n turned from serving the truth to serving idols. He said through\n the prophet Jeremiah:\n Therefore I will give their wives to others and their\n fields to conquerors, because from the least to the\n greatest everyone is greedy for unjust gain; from\n prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely. They have\n healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, ``Peace,\n peace,'' when there is no peace.\n\n\n In the past fifty years, this nation has turned from God and\n began worshiping that which, in the end, has no value. We no\n longer seek the answers to the question, ``Why am I here?''\n because we are taught that, as we evolved from some primordial\n goo, there is no purpose. We have, as a nation, rejected the\n truth of God's Word.\n\n God, in His mercy, gave the children of Israel a warning, a\n chance to return to Him, to acknowledge His rich blessings. He\n gives us that same warning, even as we see tensions in the Middle\n East, Asia, and throughout the world.\n\n As God longed to be gracious to His chosen people, He longs\n to be gracious to you. He sent Jesus to redeem you from sin and\n death, and offers that gift of eternal life to you for Christ's\n sake. There is meaning in life, for God created us in His image,\n and has restored us by His love. May our Lord grant us the\n wisdom to seek Him, to see His mercy as our Creator.
