Warning -- Part 3\n Jeremiah 8:8-9\n 08\/07\/2024\n\n\n 8 How can you say, We are wise, and the law of the\n LORD is with us? But behold, the lying pen of the\n scribes has made it into a lie.\n 9 The wise men shall be put to shame; they shall be\n dismayed and taken; behold, they have rejected the\n word of the LORD, so what wisdom is in them?\n (ESV)\n\n Our money has the motto, ``In God we trust,'' and we pledge\n allegiance to the flag, saying, ``One nation under God.'' Our\n founding fathers saw this nation as Christian, as the Supreme\n Court declared in 1892, and reaffirmed in several subsequent\n decisions.[2] This does not mean that Christianity is the\n official religion, but this nation was built on the morality of\n the Ten Commandments, and recognized that we are called to serve\n one another.\n\n Yet Jeremiah's words to the nation of Judah and those living\n in Jerusalem strike an interesting chord.\n How can you say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD\n is with us? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes\n has made it into a lie. The wise men shall be put to\n shame; they shall be dismayed and taken; behold, they\n have rejected the word of the LORD, so what wisdom is\n in them?\n\n\n Are we making the same mistakes which caused the downfall of\n Judah as they were led into captivity for seventy years? We pray\n for this nation, that we truly become wise by acknowledging God's\n rich grace and favor. This we do by repenting of our sins, by\n admitting that by ourselves we cannot do that which is right and\n proper. Then, we hold firmly to the truth of God's love, that He\n sent Jesus Christ to live, die, and rise again for our salvation.\n As individuals, our holding to the truth of God's Word helps our\n neighbors, and our nation.\n\n May our Lord grant us faith in Him, that we know of His\n bountiful mercy.
