(ESV)\n\n The modern United States is much like ancient Judah and\n Jerusalem in the years before the Jews were carried into\n captivity. Each person looked to everything but the truth of\n God's Word for wisdom and strength. Judah looked to idols, the\n United States looks to human reason and science, even though\n neither has lasting power.\n\n God, speaking through Jeremiah, said:\n Even the stork in the heavens knows her times, and the\n turtledove, swallow, and crane keep the time of their\n coming, but my people know not the rules of the LORD.\n\n\n The percentage of people who claim no religion climbed from\n five percent in the early 1970s to almost thirty percent\n today.[1] They look to their own desires, their own definition of\n right and wrong, fueled by the idea that we are meaningless blobs\n formed by chance and without purpose. Is it a wonder that you\n can hardly watch the news?\n\n Yet, God our heavenly Father sent His Son to pay the price\n of our sin, to redeem us from our selfishness, and to turn our\n hearts to the good of our neighbor. The birds of the air know\n their Creator, even while the pinnacle of creation denies that we\n are created in God's image to serve Him by acknowledging Him and\n by serving each other in love.\n\n May our Lord grant that we know Him and accept His bountiful\n love for our eternal blessing.
