This same confession of faith was also used as the starting\n point for Christian instruction, and as a touchstone for descerning \nfalse doctrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First and second century writers, such as Clement, Ignatius, Polycarp,<br>\nand Irenaeus mentioned the earliest form of this creed.<br>\nBy 500 the creed was quoted in its present form by Caesarius of Arles<br>\nin France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>The Apostles\u2019 Creed<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the\n Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was\n crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He \nrose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the \nright hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to \njudge the quick and the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church, the communion \nof saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and \nthe life everlasting.
