Growing Plants - Part 1
Luke 8:4-8
02/09/2026
4 And when a great crowd was gathering and people
from town after town came to him, he said in a
parable:
5 ``A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he
sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled
underfoot, and the birds of the air devoured it.
6 And some fell on the rock, and as it grew up, it
withered away, because it had no moisture.
7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up
with it and choked it.
8 And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded
a hundredfold.'' As he said these things, he
called out, ``He who has ears to hear, let him
hear.'' (ESV)
On Sunday we prayed:
O God, the strength of all who put their trust in You,
mercifully grant that by Your power we may be defended
against all adversity; through Jesus Christ, Your Son,
our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever.
As we look at this week's prayer of the Church, the Collect,
we do so in light of faith. Faith is knowledge of God's rich
grace and mercy. With that knowledge comes agreement that the
Word of God, which speaks of His undeserved love towards all
sinners, is true. Finally, faith trusts that Word, which bears
the fruits of good works.
And when a great crowd was gathering and people from
town after town came to him, he said in a parable: ``A
sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some
fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the
birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the
rock, and as it grew up, it withered away, because it
had no moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the
thorns grew up with it and choked it. And some fell
into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold.'' As
he said these things, he called out, ``He who has ears
to hear, let him hear.''
This week we will look at the Word, and the comfort and hope
it brings in times of adversity.
May our Lord grant us ears to willingly hear of His love as
shown in Christ Jesus. Amen.
