Be of Good Cheer - Part 5
Matthew 9:8
10/16/2026
8 When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they
glorified God, who had given such authority to
men. (ESV)
This week we have prayed for God's blessing to preserve us
from all evil, and to enable us to do that which pleases Him. We
serve God by serving our neighbor, therefore this prayer asks God
to help us reflect His love to others.
Almighty and merciful God, of Your bountiful goodness
keep from us all things that may hurt us that we, being
ready in both body and soul, may cheerfully accomplish
whatever You would have us to do.
Some friends brought a paralytic to Jesus for healing. Upon
seeing the faith of the friends, upon seeing the faith of the
paralytic, Jesus said, ``Be of good cheer, your sins are
forgiven.'' As those who saw and heard Jesus were taken aback by
this pronouncement of the remission of sins, Jesus showed His
power over sin by speaking the word of healing. The paralytic
was able to arise, pick up his bed, and go home. ``When the
crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had
given such authority to men.''
The kingdom of heaven is at hand. God calls us to confess
our sin and to trust in the suffering, death, and resurrection of
Jesus Christ so that our sins are forgiven. He grants us eternal
life, not because of our works, but because of His love alone.
God desires to bless all people with the healing power of
His love. We may remain paralyzed in this life, but with our
sins forgiven, we have the hope of everlasting life with Him.
Please join us as we gather at 9:00 a.m. each Sunday morning at
Trinity Lutheran Church to hear this message of hope.
May our Lord grant us faith to hear His Word of grace and
mercy. Amen.
