More Than We Can Imagine - Part 1
Luke 7:11-12

11 Soon afterward he went to a town called Nain, and
his disciples and a great crowd went with him.
12 As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a
man who had died was being carried out, the only
son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a
considerable crowd from the town was with her.

Yesterday's Epistle reading from Saint Paul's letter to the
Ephesians noted that God ``is able to do far more abundantly than
all that we ask or think.''[1] Our goal, knowing of God's great
love and mercy, is to trust in Him over all things. As a result
of trusting in Him, which is faith, we respond by doing those
things which are pleasing in His sight. Thus our prayer this
week:
O Lord, we pray that Your grace may always go before
and follow after us, that we may continually be given
to all good works; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our
Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever.
This week's Gospel lesson shows us not only how God will do
far more than we can imagine, but it also is a foretaste of His
eternal blessings.

his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he
drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who
had died was being carried out, the only son of his
mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd
from the town was with her.
Here, on the outskirts of a town about 20 miles southwest of
Capernaum, Jesus fought the ultimate enemy, death. Everything He
claimed to be, the Messiah, the Son of God, comes down to this
moment. Does death prevail, or is Jesus the victor?
This week we will look at the miracle at the city of Nain
both for our learning and our comfort. May our Lord grant us
faith to trust in Him, knowing His blessings exceed all we can
hope or desire. Amen.
