The Trinity - Part 5
John 3:16-17
06/20/2025
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
Son, that whoever believes in him should not
perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to
condemn the world, but in order that the world
might be saved through him. (ESV)
All three Persons of the Trinity, the One true God, are
involved in our salvation from sin and eternal death. The Father
sent His Son into the world to take on our flesh and blood, to
pay the price of our sin. The Holy Spirit creates the faith, the
trust, which acknowledges the truth that we cannot, by our own
works, redeem ourselves.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish but have
eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the
world to condemn the world, but in order that the world
might be saved through him.
Jesus is quite clear that we do not and cannot cooperate in
our salvation from sin and death. He speaks of the Father's love
and the work of the Holy Spirit. Nowhere does He say we need to
make a decision or invite Him into our heart. Nowhere does He
say we need to do good works before the Holy Spirit will accept
us. You and I are sinners redeemed because of God's grace alone
as we do not reject the gift of faith which trusts in Christ
Jesus alone.
That is the message you will hear in the congregation named
for the Triune God, Trinity Lutheran Church, each Sunday morning
at 9:00 a.m. Come, join us, hear God's Word which declares that
Jesus Christ died and rose again for you.
May our Lord grant us faith in the Triune God, Father, Son,
and Holy Spirit. Amen.
