Here I Stand - Part 2
Revelation 14:6-7
10/29/2024
6 Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead,
with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who
dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and
language and people.
7 And he said with a loud voice, ``Fear God and give
him glory, because the hour of his judgment has
come, and worship him who made heaven and earth,
the sea and the springs of water.'' (ESV)
Last Sunday Trinity Lutheran Church celebrated the
Reformation. The first reading was from Revelations the
fourteenth chapter.
Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with
an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on
earth, to every nation and tribe and language and
people. And he said with a loud voice, ``Fear God and
give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has
come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the
sea and the springs of water.''
Some Lutheran commentators suggest that this passage refers
to Martin Luther, who brought to light the truth that our
salvation from sin and eternal death is by God's rich love
alone.[1] The eternal Gospel is the good news that God our
heavenly Father sent His Son to live, suffer, die, and rise again
to pay the price of our sin. This redemption is offered to us
freely, it is not something which we either earn or deserve.
Those who are saved by grace through faith for the sake of
Christ will stand forever with the angels and archangels and the
company of heaven to praise and honor the Triune God. This good
news is for all people for all time. This good news is for you.
May our Lord grant that we may clearly proclaim God's love,
grace, and mercy to everyone, especially our friends, families,
and neighbors. Amen.
