Pipestone Circuit Retreat — Frequency of the Lord’s Supper
April 27 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night He was betrayed gave to His Church the sacrament which joins us to His sacrifice on the cross. “This do as often as you eat it,” He told His disciples. How often was that? After all, the Gospel is not the law, and it is the law that asks “What must I do? How often? What happens if I don’t?”
During this retreat, which is open to everyone, we will explore the question of the frequency of offering the Lord’s Supper. This is NOT the question of how often we should receive the Sacrament of the Altar, which is a law question. Rather, we will look at the Biblical account, the practice of the early Church, the Lutheran confessions, and the documents of the Missouri Synod.
Several congregations in our circuit are studying this question as they consider moving to every Sunday communion? What are the benefits and the pitfalls of this change? The only way to find out is to join us.
We ask you to let us know if you are coming so that we may adequately prepare for this event. We would hate to run out of coffee and snacks.
Our gathering begins at 9:00 a.m. at Trinity – Slayton on April 27, 2024.
We will be serving lunch and hope to continue our discussion over the noon meal.
